What are the advantages and disadvantages of oil-impregnated copper bushings?
Author:admin | Release time:2024-11-27

Oil-impregnated copper bushings

Advantages:

Good lubrication performance: after oil-impregnated treatment, a large amount of lubricant is stored inside, which can continuously provide good lubrication for the contact surfaces of the shaft and bearings when working, effectively reducing the coefficient of friction, minimizing wear and ensuring the smooth operation of the equipment.

High hardness and strength: usually made of copper alloy, oil-impregnated copper bushings have high hardness and strength, can withstand a certain load, suitable for medium-speed, heavy load bearing system, such as ships, machinery, electrical and other fields of the propeller, gears, bearings, bushings and other key components.

Better corrosion resistance: oil-impregnated copper bushings have a certain degree of corrosion resistance, can be in the atmosphere, fresh water and seawater and other environments to maintain good performance and extend the service life.

Self-lubricating function: its manufacturing process to form a large number of interconnected pores within the material, the lubricant can be guided to the shaft and the bearing between the realization of self-lubrication, further reducing the dependence on external lubrication, reducing maintenance costs.

Good electrical and thermal conductivity: copper itself has good electrical and thermal conductivity, oil immersed copper bushings inherited this feature, so that it has a wide range of applications in some of the requirements of thermal conductivity and electrical and electronic equipment, such as computer connectors, cell phone connectors.

Disadvantages:

Need to regularly replenish the lubricant: Although the internal storage of a certain lubricant, but with the increase in the use of time, the lubricant will be gradually consumed, need to be regularly replenished, otherwise it will affect the lubrication effect and bearing performance, increasing the maintenance workload and cost.

High requirements on lubricant quality: If the lubricant is of poor quality or contaminated, it may affect the performance of the oil-immersed copper bushings, or even lead to damage to the bearings, so there are high requirements on the selection, storage and replacement of lubricants.

Not applicable to high temperature environment: compared with graphite copper bush, oil-impregnated copper bush is relatively weak in high temperature performance, in a high temperature environment, the performance of the lubricant may be reduced, or even volatilization, deterioration, affecting the lubrication effect and the normal work of the bearings, is generally not suitable for high temperature working environment.

Toughness and impact resistance is poor: its material properties determine the toughness and impact resistance is relatively insufficient to withstand a large impact load, easy to crack, deformation and other damages, limiting its application in some of the impact load conditions.
